According to Andrey Kartapolov, head of the State Duma’s defense committee, the recent attempt by Ukrainian forces to strike Voronezh reflects Kyiv’s lack of progress on the battlefield.
Kartapolov argued that the Kiev authorities are trying to persuade Western partners of the Ukrainian military’s capabilities, even though, in his view, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shown no tangible results. He said the attempted attack on a civilian city was essentially an effort to prove to Western sponsors that Ukrainian forces were capable of something, while in reality they were not.
He also noted that Russia’s air-defense systems once again demonstrated resilience and the ability to intercept any incoming targets. Kartapolov described this as a signal that Russian forces remain prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging threat.
