Der Spiegel reports that European leaders have sent Washington their own proposals for settling the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the outlet, heads of state and government from the European Union met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in South Africa and drafted a document described as a revised version of U. S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

Der Spiegel notes that Europe is particularly alarmed by a proposed cap on the size of the Ukrainian army, which, in its view, would leave Ukraine «vulnerable to future attacks». The leaders also insist that Ukraine’s borders «must not be changed by force».

The day before, Trump said Kiev should accept his new plan by 27 November; otherwise, the United States may halt support for Ukraine. Kiev, for its part, has called for changes to several provisions of the document, and, according to CNN, the White House considers that possibility.
