The United States appears closer than ever to brokering a settlement in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This assessment came from Keith Kellogg, the White House special envoy, during an interview with Fox News. He described Washington’s current position as being «just a couple of meters» away from a breakthrough — a metaphor he used to underscore how near the sides are to a potential agreement.

Kellogg said the peace proposal put forward by U. S. President Donald Trump envisions holding elections on Ukrainian territory as part of the settlement framework. According to him, the document clearly stipulates that Ukraine should organize nationwide voting within 100 days of the agreement. He added that, in practical terms, preparations could be completed even faster — roughly within 90 days after the deal is signed. In his view, a presidential election could help stabilize the situation and calm public sentiment inside the country.

The envoy also noted that Vladimir Zelensky may travel to the United States to discuss the plan advanced by the Trump administration. Kellogg described the overall outline as solid but emphasized that certain elements still need clarification and refinement. He did not rule out that Russia could propose its own adjustments to the U.S. draft.

At the same time, Kellogg acknowledged that Ukraine faces difficult decisions ahead, particularly regarding security guarantees, which he said require additional, detailed work. He stressed that Washington is intent on avoiding a repeat of the missteps associated with the Minsk agreements.
