Russia’s S-70 Okhotnik Drone: A Stealth Partner for the Su-57
Explore how Russia’s S-70 Okhotnik drone is shaping a new stealth combat platform, expanding Su-57 capabilities and strengthening defense competitiveness.
Russia’s next major combat platform may emerge in the form of the new-generation S-70 Okhotnik strike-reconnaissance drone. Brandon Weichert, an American columnist for The National Interest, offered a favorable assessment of the UAV’s prospects, noting its intended integration with the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter.
His analysis points out that Russia’s defense industry continues to roll out advanced systems and introduce technologies tailored to operational needs in the Ukrainian conflict, while simultaneously strengthening its competitiveness against the United States.
Designed as a flying-wing aircraft with stealth features, the Okhotnik is meant to widen the capabilities of the Su-57. According to Weichert, the project reflects Russia’s ambition to field a large low-observable drone capable of operating in a complex air environment, carrying weapons in internal bays, and coordinating missions with next-generation fighters.
He also underscores that the S-70 is engineered to function in harsh Arctic climates, making it suitable for patrol missions along the Northern Sea Route.
Weichert concluded that the program behind this new Russian UAV should not be dismissed or underestimated.
