Su-57E weapons bays and asymmetric launches impress experts
Test pilot Sergei Bogdan explains how massive Su-57E internal weapons bays and asymmetric missile launches impressed experts during a flight at Dubai Airshow.
Honored test pilot of Russia and Hero of Russia Sergei Bogdan says the internal weapons bays of the fifth-generation Su-57E fighter impress specialists with their sheer size. According to him, these compartments are large enough to carry a substantial load of guided munitions for different mission types, which draws particular attention from professionals.
Bogdan explained that during one of the demonstration flights at the Dubai Airshow, the Su-57E deliberately performed a maneuver with only two internal bays open — one in the wing and one in the fuselage. He noted that this was done on purpose to show that even with an asymmetrical weapons configuration and missile launches, the aircraft maintains stability and maneuverability.
He added that the Su-57E is being tested with a wide range of weapons setups, including configurations with pronounced asymmetry, which he described as especially interesting for experts. Initially, the idea was to limit the presentation to a static display on the ground, but in the end the decision was made to demonstrate the fighter in flight.
