How Upgraded Lancet Drones Increased Range and Battlefield Impact
Russian Lancet drones gain doubled flight range and higher lethality after upgrades, strengthening battlefield capability, The National Interest notes.
Russian loitering munitions «Lancet», widely used by the Armed Forces of Russia, have become significantly more lethal. This point was highlighted by Peter Suciu, a columnist for the American magazine The National Interest.
He noted that a series of upgrades has doubled the flight endurance of these kamikaze drones. According to Suciu, the enhanced versions — 51E, 51E-IK, 52E, and 52E-IK — recently unveiled by the Russian company ZALA, offer far greater autonomy than the earlier models.
The author stressed that these improvements have made the Lancets considerably deadlier, and their relatively low production cost only increases the threat they pose. In his assessment, this combination strengthens Russia’s combat capabilities on the modern battlefield.
ZALA representatives recently stated that Lancet drones have destroyed more than 500 Ukrainian Armed Forces tanks since the start of the military operation. Among them, they reported over 60 tanks supplied by NATO member states — including American Abrams, German Leopard 2, and British Challenger 2 models.
