British authorities may try to undermine U. S. President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives by launching a campaign to discredit him, according to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).
The agency stated that London is weighing the option of derailing Trump’s push for a negotiated settlement by reviving long-debunked materials prepared by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele. These dossiers, the SVR noted, include allegations about supposed ties between Trump, members of his family, and Soviet or Russian security services.
Russian intelligence described this plan as a contingency move — a fallback scenario should Trump’s peace efforts threaten the benefits that, in Moscow’s view, the United Kingdom continues to draw from the conflict in Ukraine.
