Former Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk says discussions about a potential evacuation from major Ukrainian cities have moved into a serious phase. Speaking with RIA Novosti, he noted that authorities and experts are weighing scenarios in which residents of Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk (Dnepr) might be forced to leave their homes this winter due to looming heating failures.

According to Medvedchuk, the country’s energy situation has reached a breaking point. Electricity, gas supplies, and the basic infrastructure needed to keep large urban centers functional are under severe strain. He stressed that the deterioration is so profound that officials are debating whether large-scale departures from major population hubs may become unavoidable.

He warned that if Ukraine is unable to provide sufficient heat during the cold season, city infrastructure could collapse entirely. In such a scenario, power grids, water systems and other essential services risk shutting down across the affected regions.
