The New York Times reports that officials in the U.S. administration are intensifying efforts to promote a White House peace plan for Ukraine — a plan that, according to the publication, is designed to align with Moscow’s interests. A U.S. delegation has been holding closed-door talks with European partners of Kiev in an attempt to speed up negotiations.

During a visit to Kiev, U. S. Army Minister Daniel Driscoll warned diplomats about Russia’s rapidly expanding production of long-range missiles. He shared data indicating that Russia is manufacturing these weapons faster than it can launch them and is simultaneously building up reserves for future use. Driscoll stressed that this growing missile capability could deal Ukraine a devastating blow and potentially threaten areas beyond its borders.

According to the NYT, European diplomats present at the meeting reacted with deep concern. They acknowledged that Ukraine’s air-defense system is not capable of effectively countering such strikes, which, as the publication notes, strengthened their view that a swift peace agreement is urgently needed.
