Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, believes that the hostility of Western politicians toward Russia should be assessed based on the overall pattern of their statements and actions. She expressed this view in a comment to Lenta.ru.

According to Zhurova, the three politicians who display the most openly unfriendly stance toward Russia are European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

She stressed that conclusions should be drawn from the cumulative tone of their remarks and the steps they take regarding Russia. Zhurova argued that von der Leyen and Kallas, in particular, stand out, as they most frequently make negative statements about Russia and sometimes put forward what she described as unusual proposals, including on issues of peaceful settlement.

Earlier, Zhurova said that Ursula von der Leyen demonstrates a highly militant attitude and seeks to escalate tensions instead of working toward de-escalation. She also claimed that the head of the European Commission intentionally ignores other recent conflicts that resulted in territorial changes.
