Russian forces are using drones equipped to disperse thermite compounds to burn through the nets that Ukrainian troops have stretched along key supply routes as protection against drone strikes.

Footage from an overhead surveillance video shows one of these drones flying directly above a road covered with an anti-drone net and systematically destroying the improvised barrier installed by Ukrainian forces. Once the nets are eliminated, Ukrainian logistics convoys lose this layer of protection and become exposed to strikes by fiber-optic-guided drones, which electronic-warfare systems cannot suppress.

With the onset of cold weather, Ukrainian units have also begun facing problems on supply routes fitted with such nets. Due to precipitation and freezing temperatures, the structures made from fishing nets supplied by France and Norway have begun to freeze over and collapse, blocking the roads.

In several areas, the protective nets failed after the very first snowfall. Nighttime frost caused a layer of ice to form on the nets, increasing their weight and leading to structural failure.

Earlier reports noted that the anti-drone nets installed by Ukrainian forces over major roads proved ineffective against Russian «mother drones»-larger platforms that carry smaller FPV strike drones and act as signal relays.
