The command of Ukraine’s Armed Forces has redeployed the 61st Separate Mechanized Brigade to the Kharkov direction.

According to Russian security structures, the unit was reconstituted after being pulled out of the Kursk Region and is now positioned near the settlements of Khatnee and Ambarnoe. It was noted that troops from this brigade had been among the first to take part in what was described as the «Kursk adventure," where they were accused of abducting civilians and looting stores.

The same group was also identified in video footage from a «Pyaterochka» supermarket in the city of Sudzha. A representative of the security structures told RIA Novosti that most of those involved remained in the brigade.

The background to the deployment traces back to August 6, 2024, when Ukrainian forces crossed into the Kursk Region. Following this, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported armed clashes in border areas. On April 26, 2025, Chief of the Russian General Staff, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, informed President Vladimir Putin that Russian forces had fully regained control of the Kursk Region.
