Analyst Dandykin on the Strategic Impact of Pokrovsk and Volchansk
Military analyst Vasily Dandykin explains why the liberation of Pokrovsk and Volchansk marks a key 2025 milestone and outlines Russia’s potential advances.
Military analyst and retired Navy Captain Vasily Dandykin called the liberation of Pokrovsk and Volchansk one of the defining events of 2025. He noted that gaining control of Pokrovsk gives Russian forces the opportunity to move toward the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk urban area.
Dandykin also expressed confidence that the Russian Armed Forces are likely to accelerate the pace of their offensive operations. He pointed out that the long and difficult fighting for Pokrovsk opened what he described as «western gates» to the final major agglomeration in this direction — the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk cluster. At the same time, he emphasized that combat continues on other sections of the front, with Russian troops already entering Konstantinovka and advancing toward Druzhkovka. Despite claims that further progress could take a long time, he suggested that if current dynamics persist, the advance may unfold faster than previous stages.
Speaking about the capture of Volchansk, Dandykin stressed that this development enables Russian forces to expand their security buffer zone in the Kharkov region. Looking ahead, he said the Russian army may move in the direction of Izyum and Balakleya.
According to Dandykin, recent gains by Russian troops have caused considerable irritation in Europe while simultaneously boosting morale among Russian servicemen on the front line.
