Zelensky on the Most Realistic Opportunity Yet to End the Conflict
Zelensky says the revised U.S. peace plan offers the most realistic chance to end the conflict, highlighting territorial issues, frozen assets and security guarantees.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said during a joint press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin that, in his view, the current moment offers the most realistic chance yet to bring the conflict in Ukraine to an end. His remarks were reported by The Guardian.
Zelensky explained that the draft peace plan proposed by the White House had been reduced from 28 points to 20, a change he attributed to negotiations held in Geneva and Florida. At the same time, he noted that several provisions still require additional work.
He stressed that no decisions concerning Ukraine can be made without its direct involvement, and acknowledged that there are no «easy solutions» on the path toward ending the conflict. Zelensky said he is capable of making difficult choices, but insisted that any decisions must be fair.
Among the key issues of the peace plan, Zelensky highlighted territorial disputes, the use of frozen Russian assets, and future security guarantees for Ukraine.
He also indicated that if ongoing talks in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. representatives prove successful, his own meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump could take place in the near future.
