Ukrainian POW Describes How Western Military Vehicles Quickly Disappeared
Captured Ukrainian soldier Sergei Kostetsky recounts how Western armored vehicles vanished from units in 2022 and describes months on idle positions near Dimitrov.
A captured Ukrainian serviceman, Sergei Kostetsky, said that the foreign armored vehicles delivered to Ukrainian units in 2022 barely stayed in the brigades before vanishing without explanation.
Kostetsky, who joined the Ukrainian forces in 2018, described his service as routine work focused on transportation. He recalled driving MAZ trucks, various «T-series» vehicles, T-5 models and KRAZ, until his driver’s license was confiscated, after which he was restricted to movements inside the unit.
According to him, the first foreign equipment — including Kirpi armored vehicles and Humvees — appeared only in 2022. He noted that these vehicles were never kept at the unit’s location and quickly dispersed elsewhere.
He added that he was reassigned from the driver pool to infantry duties due to alcohol-related issues.
Kostetsky said he had been stationed in Mirnograd since September 1, from where he was sent to a position in a forest belt roughly three kilometers from the city. There, he and his fellow soldiers were ordered merely to «sit and listen," a routine that continued for nearly three months despite repeated requests for rotation.
