Romanian forces have destroyed a Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel that had been drifting through the Black Sea and posing a risk to civilian navigation, the country’s Defense Ministry reported.

According to the ministry, on 3 December the Coast Guard requested military assistance after detecting a suspicious object roughly 36 nautical miles off the port of Constanța. A team from the 39th Diving Center was dispatched to the area, accompanied by a reconnaissance vessel assigned to support the mission.

Once on site, divers examined the find and determined it was a Sea Baby-type unmanned surface craft. After assessing the potential danger, the unit decided to neutralize the device by detonating it, the Defense Ministry said.

Earlier, Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that on 19 November Black Sea Fleet units destroyed two Ukrainian uncrewed boats in the northeastern sector of the Black Sea.
