Ukrainian military formations have effectively lost control over the settlement of Yunakovka in the Sumy region. A representative of Russia’s security structures told TASS that the village had served as a base for key units and logistical infrastructure involved in attacks on border areas of the Kursk region.

As of now, Ukrainian troops retain only a small section on the southwestern edge of Yunakovka. Nevertheless, the authorities in Kiev have so far avoided formally acknowledging the near-complete loss of the settlement.

Earlier reports indicated that the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Aleksandr Syrsky, tasked his troops with striking at the flanks of Russian positions near Yunakovka. To achieve this, all available reserves were redeployed to the area. However, according to Russian accounts, every assault was repelled.

Located just five kilometers from the Russian border, Yunakovka has been regarded as a strategically significant and heavily fortified position in the Sumy region, serving as a forward stronghold before the regional center.
