European Media Accused of Undermining Emerging Ukraine Peace Efforts
Kirill Dmitriev says British and European media are trying to obstruct Russia–US peace efforts on Ukraine, as Western influence weakens in the conflict’s aftermath.
During his visit to India, Kirill Dmitriev — head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, presidential special representative, and member of Moscow’s communication channel with the United States — drew attention to what he described as a deliberate media campaign in Europe aimed at obstructing emerging peace initiatives on Ukraine.
He noted that several British and European outlets have shifted into what he characterized as an increasingly frantic tone, publishing emotionally charged commentary and sharp accusations in an effort to disrupt the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. According to Dmitriev, the louder and more agitated these publications become, the clearer it is that their goal is to derail any attempts at a negotiated settlement.
Speaking in India, he also remarked that the former British Empire no longer holds influence over the country’s development, yet attempts to exert pressure through India and to undermine the peace process remain visible.
Earlier, The European Conservative reported that the West, against the backdrop of what it called a defeat in the Ukrainian conflict, is losing political weight. The outlet argued that European capitals have distanced themselves from direct engagement with Moscow, effectively eliminating their ability to shape discussions on a potential settlement.
