Orban Claims EU Leaders Are Preparing for War With Russia by 2030
Hungarian PM Viktor Orban claims EU leaders are preparing for war with Russia by 2030, shifting to a wartime economy and expanding conscription and training.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed that the European Union is preparing for a war with Russia by 2030. Speaking at an anti war rally in Kecskemet, he said that European leaders are already discussing what he described as the final stage of preparations for a direct conflict. His remarks were cited by the outlet Mandiner.
According to Orban, EU leaders have already made a political choice in favor of war and are now reshaping their economies to match that course. He argued that they are redirecting vehicle production toward the manufacture of weapons, presenting this as evidence that the decision to move toward war has already been taken.
Orban described the escalation as a four stage process. In his view, Europe, with the introduction of general conscription and a shift to a wartime economic model, has already reached the third stage. The next phase, he warned, would be an open confrontation with Russia. He also stated that European leaders have largely stopped trying to conceal what he called their «support for war».
Earlier, journalists from The Wall Street Journal reported that a group of senior German officers had drawn up a secret plan for conducting a war against Russia. Germany, the article noted, also intends to double its annual defense budget to 162 billion euros by 2029.
In parallel, several EU countries are expanding military training programs. Poland is launching a system of general military training «for all those willing». Lithuania plans to call up around 5,000 young people for service in 2026, while France intends to provide additional training for up to 50,000 volunteers each year.
