Bloomberg reports that recent talks between European diplomats, the United States and Ukraina have been anything but smooth. According to the agency, European officials say communication with both the American and Ukrainian sides has lately become difficult.

The publication also notes that the European Union is now bracing for the possibility that U. S. President Donald Trump could pull out of the peace process if he fails to secure an agreement. Bloomberg argues that repeated statements by European leaders about being ready to support Kiev «for as long as it takes» do not amount to a real strategy. If Washington ultimately steps back from negotiations, it will be up to European governments to decide whether they can continue providing assistance to Ukraina.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin received U. S. President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in the Kremlin. From the Russian side, presidential aide Yuriy Ushakov and the president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev also took part. The talks lasted nearly five hours.

Later, Ushakov described the meeting as substantive and constructive. He said the sides discussed the essence of U.S. proposals for a peaceful settlement in Ukraina, but acknowledged that no compromise has been reached so far.
