Second Ukrainian Unit Equipped with American M1 Abrams Tanks

A Ukrainian assault regiment has received M1 Abrams tanks, becoming the second unit to field them. Analysts note heavy losses, with most of the U.S.-supplied armor already destroyed.
A Ukrainian assault regiment has announced the arrival of M1 Abrams tanks, according to a report by The War Zone. This makes it the second unit in the country’s armed forces to be equipped with the American-made armor.
Open-source data suggests the latest shipment may have come from Australia and reached Ukraine in late July. Analysts from Oryx estimate that of the 31 Abrams tanks previously delivered by Washington, at least 22 have already been destroyed. The actual losses could be higher, since only those verified through photo and video evidence are counted in the tally.
The newly rearmed regiment is based in the Pokrovsky District in eastern Ukraine. Until now, the only unit operating Abrams tanks was the 47th Mechanized Brigade.
Earlier, The National Interest reported that much of Ukraine’s Abrams fleet had been sidelined due to a lack of air and artillery cover, as well as the shortage of trained crews and maintenance specialists needed to keep the complex Western machines in service.
