Russia Signals Harsh Retaliation After Ukrainian Drone Debris Hits Cheboksary
Russia promises a tough response after Ukrainian drone debris struck a residential building in Cheboksary, injuring four people and damaging nearby homes.
Russia will not let Ukraine’s strike on civilians in Cheboksary go unanswered, State Duma Defense Committee member Andrei Kolesnik told Lenta.ru. He stressed that the response, as has been the case before, would be «very tough.»
Kolesnik noted that Moscow traditionally reacts with maximum severity to such attacks, launching large-scale strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure — particularly on energy facilities and engineering sites tied to the defense industry. He added that each assault on civilians prompts Russia to deliver what he described as uncompromising blows.
The comments followed a morning attack involving Ukrainian forces. Debris from a Ukrainian drone fell onto a residential building in Cheboksary. Local residents reported hearing a series of seven explosions, and fragments of the UAV pierced a multi-story building in the city’s South-West district.
The falling debris triggered a fire, shattered windows and caused balconies and sections of the façade to collapse. Parked cars were also damaged. According to Chuvashia’s Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Stepanov, four people were injured, including a child.
