Russian forces have nearly secured full control over the strategically important town of Severesk in the Donetsk People’s Republic. According to the Telegram channel Mash, the Russian military now holds approximately 99 percent of the city’s territory.

Soldiers from the 6th and 7th Cossack brigades reported that they were among the first units to enter Severesk and successfully neutralized Ukraine’s elite 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade.

The Ukrainian defense’s last stronghold centered on the private residential areas at the city’s outskirts, which they held for less than a week. Currently, Russian troops are focused on clearing explosives planted within buildings and sweeping through basements across the town.

Just two days earlier, on December 7, reports indicated a rapid deterioration in the position of the Ukrainian garrison defending Severesk. Russian forces had launched an assault from three directions after cutting off all supply routes to Ukrainian troops, steadily tipping control of the city in Moscow’s favor.
