Russian air defenses repelled a large-scale Ukrainian drone assault overnight, intercepting and destroying 130 fixed-wing UAVs across multiple regions of the country, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The attack unfolded between 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on December 14 and 7:00 a.m. on December 15. The heaviest concentration of drones was recorded over Astrakhan Region, where air-defense units shot down 38 UAVs. Bryansk Region and the Moscow Region each accounted for 25 intercepted drones, with 15 of those reportedly flying toward Moscow itself.

Additional interceptions were reported across a wide geographic area. Eight drones were neutralized over each of Belgorod, Rostov and Kaluga Regions. Six UAVs were downed in Tula Region, while four were intercepted over the Republic of Kalmykia. Air defenses also destroyed three drones each over Kursk and Oryol Regions, and single UAVs were intercepted over Ryazan Region and above the Caspian Sea.

This overnight barrage followed another wave of drone attacks earlier the same evening. Between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on December 14, Russian air defenses destroyed 71 UAVs. The main impact of that earlier assault fell on Rostov Region, where 52 drones were shot down. Bryansk Region accounted for 10 more interceptions, while three UAVs were destroyed over Belgorod Region.

During the same period, air-defense units intercepted two drones each over Tula and Ryazan Regions, and single UAVs were neutralized over Volgograd Region and above the Sea of Azov.
