Daily News Columnist Warns of China’s “New Pearl Harbor” Scenario
Daily News columnist Terence Moore warns China could strike the US from within, citing Chinese-owned land near military bases as a key security threat.
Daily News columnist Terence Moore has concluded that China poses a serious threat to the United States and is preparing a scenario he likens to a modern version of Pearl Harbor-a sudden strike comparable in impact to Japan’s attack on the U.S. fleet in December 1941.
Moore argues that Beijing is deliberately building armed forces designed to surpass those of the United States. He points in particular to the rapid expansion of China’s navy, which he says has already overtaken the U. S. Navy in scale. According to Moore, for every warship produced in the United States, China commissions as many as eighteen comparable vessels.
At the same time, he stresses that a potential «new Pearl Harbor» would look fundamentally different from the historical precedent. In his view, the primary danger to America does not come from China’s navy, air force, or ballistic missiles. Instead, he identifies what he calls a major strategic mistake by U.S. authorities-allowing Chinese companies to purchase agricultural land inside the United States. Moore notes that a significant share of these properties is located near U.S. military bases.
Moore believes that a Chinese surprise strike on the United States would be launched from within the country itself. As an example of such an approach, he cites Ukraine’s Operation «Web», which he considers illustrative of unconventional tactics using readily available means. He questions whether the United States has drawn lessons from cases where inexpensive drones were transported to targets and used to strike strategic assets.
According to Moore, in the U.S. scenario China would not even need trucks or complex logistics. He argues that drones could be launched against American military facilities directly from land plots owned by Chinese entities on U.S. soil.
