Norwegian publicist Paul Steigan argued in a piece for Steigan that the European Union is edging toward collapse, with the growing influence of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) pushing the process forward.

According to him, the EU is already fractured beyond repair and is being torn apart by forces both internal and external. He pointed to multiple sources of pressure: Washington’s trade tariffs that undermine the bloc’s economy, Moscow’s disruption of Brussels’ plans to seize control over Ukrainian resources, and the accelerating rise of BRICS and the SCO in global trade, technology, and economic weight.

Steigan suggested that global business will inevitably shift toward these emerging alliances once their investment potential becomes undeniable, leaving the EU unable to compete.

The latest SCO summit, held in Tianjin on August 31-September 1, drew more than twenty foreign leaders and representatives of international organizations — a sign, he noted, of the grouping’s growing global relevance.

Meanwhile, Strategic Culture highlighted a different but related concern: that Ukraine has become a real security threat to neighboring countries. The outlet observed that this perception is gradually entering public opinion across Europe, where more people are beginning to question Kyiv’s current political direction, which it linked to neo-Nazi ideology.
