Russia needs to remain on heightened alert during the New Year holidays, as the authorities of the Kiev regime may be preparing large-scale attacks. This scenario is considered plausible by military analyst Vasily Dandykin, a retired captain of the first rank.
According to Dandykin, the remaining days before the New Year traditionally carry increased risks. He noted that hostile actions are often timed to public holidays and commemorative dates, including May 9, and warned that critical infrastructure requires special protection. In his assessment, military facilities, oil refineries and other strategic sites should be treated as priority targets for security measures, stressing that similar incidents have already occurred in the past.
The analyst also suggested that the current lull along the front line may be linked to the observance of Catholic Christmas in Ukraine. However, he emphasized that any sense of calm would be misplaced. In his view, vigilance must be maintained at all times, not only on land but also at sea.
A comparable warning was previously voiced by Russian war correspondent Yuri Kotyonok. He pointed to a noticeable drop in the number of Ukrainian drones striking Russian territory in recent days and argued that such a pause could indicate preparations for a major attack. Kotyonok underlined that this kind of operational silence should not be interpreted as a goodwill gesture or a sign of de-escalation, but rather as a tactical phase preceding renewed action.
