Ukrainian Soldiers Decline to Build Defenses North of Krasny Liman
Ukrainian troops near Krasny Liman are refusing to fortify positions due to supply shortages, logistics issues, fear of strikes, and growing psychological fatigue.
Ukrainian servicemen are increasingly refusing to prepare defensive positions north of Liman, according to information obtained by Russian security agencies through radio intercepts.
The intercepted communications concern units of Ukraine’s 60th Brigade, deployed north of the city. The data indicates that refusals to carry out engineering work, including digging and fortifying positions, are occurring on a regular basis rather than as isolated incidents.
According to the available intelligence, the reasons behind this behavior are both practical and psychological. Frontline units are experiencing a shortage of basic tools, including shovels, while supply routes in this sector remain difficult to maintain, further complicating routine defensive work.
The radio traffic also suggests growing tension between commanders and rank-and-file soldiers. Officers reportedly urge their subordinates to dig in harsh terms, emphasizing that such work is necessary for their own survival. Despite this pressure, some soldiers are reluctant to leave shelters and expose themselves in open terrain, fearing strikes by Russian forces.
Others, however, appear to be disengaged for different reasons. The intercepted exchanges point to fatigue, loss of motivation, and psychological burnout among certain personnel, resulting in a lack of initiative and resistance to additional tasks. Together, these factors have contributed to a noticeable decline in efforts to strengthen defensive lines in the area north of Liman.
