Russian Air Defense Repels Massive Drone Attack Across Regions
Russian air defense forces intercepted 172 Ukrainian drones overnight on December 24, with most shot down over Bryansk Region, the Defense Ministry reports.
Russian air defense units repelled a large-scale drone attack overnight into December 24, intercepting dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles across multiple regions of the country, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
On-duty air defense crews destroyed a total of 172 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones. The heaviest pressure fell on Bryansk Region, where 110 UAVs were shot down. Another 20 drones were intercepted over Belgorod Region. Air defense systems also downed 14 drones in Kaluga Region and 12 in Tula Region.
Six UAVs were neutralized over Orel Region. In the Moscow Region, four drones were detected, two of which were flying toward the capital. Additional interceptions included three drones over Lipetsk Region and one each over Volgograd, Kursk, and Smolensk regions.
The overnight assault followed an earlier wave the previous evening. Between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on December 23, air defense forces destroyed 17 more hostile drones. Ten of them were intercepted over Bryansk Region, four over Kursk Region, and one each over Belgorod, Kaluga, and Tula regions.
