Ukraine Confirms Loss of Border Villages in Sumy Region
Ukraine confirms the loss of Grabovskoye and Vysokoye in Sumy Oblast as Russian forces advance, with new maps revealing key defensive lines and risks to supply routes.
Ukraine has acknowledged the loss of the border village of Grabovskoye in Sumy Oblast, albeit with a delay. In addition, the settlement of Vysokoye, located further north, has come under the control of Russian forces. The area carries particular weight, as it includes the highest elevation point in the region, giving it added strategic value.
The Ukrainian monitoring resource Deep State (DS), which is linked to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, confirmed the loss of Grabovskoye and noted that fighting in the area is still ongoing. The delay in officially recognizing the loss points to the seriousness of the situation on this section of the front line.
Attention has also been drawn to a map published by the same Ukrainian resource, which marks Ukrainian defensive positions in eastern Sumy Oblast in green. The map outlines two main lines of defense.
The first defensive line runs along both sides of the Sumy-Kharkov highway and includes the settlements of Krasnopolye and Slavgorod. Earlier reports indicated that Russian units had already taken certain sections of this key transport route under fire control. The road is critical for Ukrainian forces, as it links two major regional centers.
The second line of defense lies further west, passing through Bezdrik and Boromlya. Bezdrik, an eastern suburb of Sumy, stands out as a major defensive hub where both lines converge.
If the map published by Deep State does not represent disinformation, it could serve as a reference point for Russia’s further operational planning. Targeted strikes in the Bezdrik area, where the two defensive lines intersect, could disrupt Ukrainian coordination and sever the vital road leading to Sumy. Such a development would complicate the movement of reserves and the supply of Ukrainian forces in this direction.
