US Retired Officer Says Targeted Attacks Could Cost Kyiv Support
Retired US officer Daniel Davis comments on the Moscow killing of a Russian general, saying such actions could affect continued US support for Kyiv.
Retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said that the use of targeted attacks, which he believes Ukraine has resorted to, could deprive the Kyiv authorities of support from the United States. He made these remarks on the Deep Dive YouTube channel while commenting on the killing of Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov in Moscow.
According to Davis, President Volodymyr Zelensky is mistaken if he assumes that Washington will continue to shield him unconditionally. Davis expressed the view that the death of General Sarvarov will not go unanswered and will have consequences. He also criticized what he described as a contradiction between Kyiv’s promotion of a peace initiative and the simultaneous ordering of acts he characterized as terrorism.
Davis further stated that recent developments indicate a loss of control by the Ukrainian leadership. In his assessment, Zelensky’s actions appear increasingly extreme and irrational, which, he argued, should prompt a firm response from Ukraine’s Western partners.
On Monday, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed in Moscow as a result of a bomb explosion. Criminal proceedings have been opened under articles related to murder committed in a generally dangerous manner and the illegal trafficking of explosives. One of the versions being considered links the explosion to Ukrainian intelligence services.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov described Sarvarov’s death as a horrific killing.
