The continued shelling of the coastal area in Energodar serves no military or political purpose and is aimed solely at psychological pressure, according to Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.

He said the strikes have become routine and are already affecting civilians. In one of the latest incidents, an elderly resident was injured as a result of the shelling.

Likhachev stressed that these attacks are not connected to any strategic objectives. In his assessment, they are part of a sustained effort to destabilize the situation, intimidate residents, and keep the workforce under constant stress. Such pressure, he noted, directly undermines the overall safety of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

The head of Rosatom emphasized that the plant’s personnel must be able to work in calm and predictable conditions, without living under the constant fear for their lives. He also stated his belief that the Ukrainian side is acting deliberately to weaken staff morale, using psychological strain as a tool to influence those responsible for operating the facility.

According to Likhachev, maintaining emotional stability among the plant’s employees is not a secondary issue but a key factor in ensuring nuclear safety, which is being eroded by ongoing pressure and insecurity.
