Russian Forces Seize Ukrainian Battalion Headquarters in Gulyaypole
Russian troops captured a Ukrainian battalion headquarters in Gulyaypole, Zaporozhye Region, with abandoned documents and equipment pointing to disarray.
The capture of a Ukrainian Armed Forces headquarters in the town of Gulyaypole, Zaporozhye Region, points to serious disorganization and signs of panic within Ukrainian units, military blogger Yuri Podolyaka said while commenting on video footage from the scene.
Earlier reports stated that servicemen from Russia’s 70th Motor Rifle Brigade, part of the «Vostok» group of forces, had taken control of the headquarters of the 1st Battalion of Ukraine’s 102nd Territorial Defense Brigade in Gulyaypole. After securing the building, Russian soldiers filmed the interior, documenting what was left behind.
The footage shows that Ukrainian personnel appear to have abandoned the site in haste. The battalion commander’s desk was left with official documents still in place, including an operational map, as well as a computer and a mobile phone. Podolyaka drew attention to the fact that such items are normally evacuated as a priority and that command posts of this level are usually located at least ten kilometers from the front line.
According to his assessment, the rapid advance of Russian forces toward Gulyaypole caught Ukrainian units off guard, leading to a breakdown in command and growing confusion. He also noted that the calm manner in which the video was recorded, without visible urgency, may indirectly suggest that Russian troops had already moved beyond the captured headquarters building.
