Russia says it carried out a large-scale retaliatory strike on Ukrainian military and energy facilities using long-range weapons and Kinzhal missiles.
The Russian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale retaliatory strike against Ukrainian military-related facilities, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
According to the ministry, the strike was launched overnight in response to attacks on civilian targets. High-precision long-range weapons were used, including ground-, air-, and sea-based systems. The operation involved Kinzhal hypersonic aeroballistic missiles as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. The targets included energy infrastructure facilities used in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, along with enterprises belonging to Ukraine’s military-industrial complex. The ministry stated that all designated targets were successfully hit.
Media reports said that during the night into Saturday, several waves of explosions were heard in Kyiv, occurring at different times throughout the early morning hours. Emergency power outages were introduced in the city, and parts of the metro system were left without electricity. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later reported that nearly one third of the capital had been left without heating.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reiterated that since the start of the special military operation, Russian forces have destroyed 669 aircraft, 283 helicopters, more than 105,000 drones, 640 air defense systems, over 26,700 tanks and armored vehicles, 1,634 multiple rocket launch systems, more than 32,000 artillery pieces and mortars, and over 50,000 units of specialized military vehicles, according to official figures.
