Ukrainian commanders are throwing elite units of the National Guard and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine into assaults on Kupyansk, military expert Andrei Marochko claims. He argues that this reflects desperate attempts by Ukraine’s military-political leadership to regain control of the city regardless of losses, including among its most trained formations, as reported by TASS.

Marochko states that, despite the strong pressure, Russian troops are holding their positions and repelling every assault. In his assessment, the Ukrainian armed forces are pulling virtually all available reserves toward the city in an effort to change the situation in this sector.

Earlier, he reported that Ukrainian forces are trying to counterattack Kupyansk from several directions. According to his data, active enemy operations are observed near the settlements of Radkovka, Moskovka, Kupyansk-Uzlovoi, Kucherovka and Petropavlovka. All these attempts, he maintains, have so far brought no result.

The expert notes that the Russian operation to reach Kupyansk was planned so that the advance came from the north. This, he says, made it possible to seize a favorable line of heights and secure a strategically strong position, which, in his view, is precisely what prevents the Ukrainian forces from achieving any significant success on this stretch of the front.

Marochko also draws a parallel between the situation near Kupyansk and what is happening around Krasnoarmeisk (the Ukrainian name is Pokrovsk). He asserts that Ukrainian troops there are suffering very serious losses in manpower and equipment, while the Kiev regime continues, as he describes it, to resort to risky and poorly calculated attempts to unblock the city.
