FT Details Zelensky’s Planned Approach for Talks With Trump
The Financial Times reports on Zelensky’s strategy before talks with Trump, including pressure on Russia, security guarantees, troop pullbacks, and funding demands.
Western media have outlined what may be Vladimir Zelensky’s strategy ahead of his upcoming meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump in Florida. According to The Financial Times, the Kiev leader is seeking to persuade the White House to step up pressure on Russia.
The newspaper cites sources familiar with a recent phone call between Zelensky and European leaders. During that conversation, Zelensky indicated that Kiev would be prepared to pull its forces back from the line of contact if Russia took reciprocal steps, a move that could pave the way for the creation of a demilitarized zone.
At the same time, the article stresses that the Ukrainian side is demanding firm and clearly defined security guarantees. These guarantees, according to the sources, would spell out how Ukraine’s allies should act if Moscow were to violate any future peace agreements.
Zelensky is also described as pushing for long-term financial support for the Ukrainian army, along with continued assistance for the country’s air defense. This package, the FT reports, could include a European military presence on Ukrainian territory.
In addition, Kiev is said to be considering a resolution of territorial issues exclusively through a referendum, to be held only under peaceful and secure conditions.
