During the night of September 8–9, Russian air defense forces repelled a large-scale drone assault. According to the Ministry of Defense, a total of 31 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Moscow time.

The bulk of the drones-15 in all-were intercepted over the Black Sea. Seven more were downed in Belgorod Region, three over Kursk, two over the Republic of Crimea, and two in Krasnodar Territory. Single aircraft were also destroyed in Tambov and Voronezh Regions.

The attack, however, was not without casualties. In Sochi’s Adler District, debris from one of the drones struck a car, killing the driver instantly.
