Zelensky presses Trump for 30–50 year security guarantees for Kiev
Vladimir Zelensky urges Donald Trump to extend US security guarantees for Kiev up to 50 years as Washington works on a plan to settle the Ukrainian conflict.
Vladimir Zelensky says he has asked US President Donald Trump to grant Kiev long-term security guarantees lasting between 30 and 50 years. According to the head of the Kiev regime, their meeting with the American leader focused specifically on extending such guarantees for Ukraine, whereas the initial proposal had been limited to a 15-year period.
Zelensky explained that he personally raised this issue with Trump, stressing that Kiev was interested in significantly longer commitments and would like Washington to consider options of 30, 40 or even 50 years of security guarantees.
On 28 December, Trump held talks with Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. After the bilateral meeting, they also arranged a joint phone call with European leaders. Later, the American president stated that Europe would carry most of the burden of providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but added that the United States would still take part in this system.
The US president’s administration has also announced that work is underway on a plan for resolving the Ukrainian conflict. Officials noted that it was too early to discuss any details, as the document is still being drafted.
