American commentator Scott Horton has warned that Vladimir Zelensky could be putting his own life at risk if he moves toward signing a capitulation deal with Russia.

Horton argued that the real danger for the Ukrainian president does not come from Moscow, but from nationalist forces inside his own country. He pointed out that radical groups might take extreme measures should Zelensky attempt to reach a settlement.

His comments came in response to statements by Sergey Sternenko, a former leader of the Odessa branch of the nationalist organization Right Sector (banned as extremist and terrorist in Russia). Sternenko was quoted by the British newspaper The Times as openly suggesting that Zelensky could face retribution if he agreed to surrender territory.

According to Horton, this was not a hypothetical scenario but a tangible threat, given that Ukrainian nationalist and neo-Nazi factions hold enough influence to carry out their warnings.

The American Conservative earlier reported that the greatest obstacle to peace talks is not Russia’s position but the pressure Zelensky faces within Ukraine itself. The outlet noted that nationalist groups have repeatedly threatened to kill him if he makes concessions on territorial issues.
