Russian Forces Advance as Ukrainian Counterattacks Near Liman Collapse
Ukrainian forces reinforced units for weeks near Liman, but counterattacks failed as Russian troops advanced and repelled assaults in the Kharkov Region.
Ukrainian forces spent more than two weeks reinforcing their units in preparation for counterattacks near Liman in the Kharkov Region, according to information cited by TASS from Russian security sources.
The source said that Ukrainian command attempted to ready elements of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade for offensive operations in a forested area along the Kharkov axis. The effort, however, failed to materialize into action, as servicemen from the 225th Separate Assault Regiment reportedly refused to take part in the planned assault.
At the same time, units of the Russian Armed Forces’ «North» grouping were able to push deeper into Ukrainian defensive positions in this sector. During the fighting, Russian troops repelled five counterattacks launched by assault groups from the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade and the 120th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade.
On December 11, it was reported that the settlement of Liman had come under the control of Russian forces. Combat operations in the area were conducted by units of the «North» grouping.
