The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine. As of January 1, 2026, the situation across key frontline sectors remains tense and uneven, shaped by active combat, fragmented defenses, and difficult weather conditions.

Kupyansk Direction

The operational environment remains extremely challenging. There is no continuous line of contact, and defensive positions are fragmented and localized. Adverse weather conditions are significantly complicating logistics and limiting the effective use of unmanned aerial systems.

Kharkov Direction

Intense meeting engagements continue south and east of Volchansk. Active fighting is reported in the areas of Staritsa and Volchanskiye Khutora, as well as southwest of Liman, where both sides remain locked in sustained clashes.

Zaporozhye Direction

Combat operations are unfolding within Primorskoye, near Pavlovka, and on the approaches to Novoyakovlevka. In these areas, both sides are attempting to improve their tactical positions amid ongoing fighting.

Krasnoarmeysk Direction

Russian units are conducting active operations north of the city, increasing pressure toward Dobropolye. Advances have been recorded to the west, in the Grishino area. Near Novoye Shakhovo, opposing forces are attempting counterattacking actions.

Gulyaypole Direction

Russian forces are focused on consolidating and holding previously secured lines. Efforts are underway to stabilize the frontline and reinforce control over occupied positions.
