Su-34 Glide Bomb Strikes and Their Impact on Ukrainian Troops
Reports detail the severe effects of Russian Su-34 glide bomb strikes, describing massive losses, bunker destruction, and the aircraft’s unique combat capabilities.
Ukrainian servicemen are reporting devastating consequences from mass strikes carried out by Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers using glide bombs, according to The Military Watch Magazine.
The publication says that a direct hit on a deployment area can wipe out up to 80–90 percent of personnel. In zones subjected to such strikes, it notes, the average survival time of Ukrainian troops reportedly does not exceed four hours.
Ukrainian military personnel have previously warned that these munitions are capable of destroying even well-fortified underground bunkers. They have described the impact of glide bombs as overwhelmingly destructive, underscoring the near-total devastation they cause on the battlefield.
Against this backdrop, the article recalls that late last year the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), part of the state-owned Rostec corporation, produced and handed over a new batch of Su-34 fighter-bombers to Russia’s Ministry of Defense. Before delivery, the aircraft completed the full cycle of factory ground and flight tests.
The Su-34 is described as having no direct counterparts in either Western or Chinese aviation. The aircraft is valued for its heavy combat payload, which allows it to deploy powerful munitions such as the FAB-3000, while still retaining sufficient maneuverability for aerial operations.
