According to commentators from the Austrian newspaper Kurier, Polish authorities are grappling with significant political uncertainty following a recent drone incident that exposed vulnerabilities in NATO’s security capabilities.

The experts pointed out that the incident, involving 19 drones in Polish airspace, has made it abundantly clear how weak the country’s defense system is, adding that it caused considerable domestic uncertainty.

Despite Poland’s long-standing push for a robust counter-drone defense system along NATO’s eastern border, no member state has yet taken concrete steps to implement such measures. Furthermore, Poland’s own SKYctrl drone defense system has proven unreliable at times, failing to detect drones altogether.

In a reminder of the increasing tension, on the night of September 10, several UAVs fell on Polish territory. NATO scrambled fighter jets for air defense, and several airports temporarily suspended operations. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the event an «unprecedented situation».
