Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported that the house previously linked to claims of a «Russian drone» strike was in fact hit by an AIM-120 missile fired from an F-16 fighter jet.

According to a security services source cited by the outlet, the air-to-air AIM-120 AMRAAM malfunctioned mid-flight after its guidance system failed. The missile did not detonate on impact because its safety mechanisms were triggered.

The missile, roughly three meters long and weighing more than 150 kilograms, crashed into a home in the village of Vyryki-Volya, near the border with Belarus.

The incident comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in Poland. A wave of unidentified drones that entered Polish airspace on the night of September 10 had already provoked alarm within NATO. Western officials quickly suggested the drones were Russian, but many Poles believe they may have been launched by Ukrainian forces in an attempt to draw Warsaw deeper into the conflict.
