British authorities plan to rely on the influence of King Charles III in discussions over Ukraine during U. S. President Donald Trump’s state visit, Politico reported, citing government sources.

Trump arrived in London for his second state visit; his first took place in 2019 and was marked by large-scale protests. Demonstrations are again being prepared by opponents of the American leader in the British capital.

According to the publication, officials hope that the monarch’s «royal charm» will help create momentum for Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his senior advisers to press Trump to increase pressure in pursuit of peace in Ukraine.

A senior British military official told Politico that Charles III is well briefed on the details of ceasefire negotiations. The outlet noted that while the King may address the issue during a speech at the state banquet — as he did during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit — most of his diplomatic engagement will take place behind closed doors.

At the same time, the article stressed that persuading Trump to adopt a tougher line in support of Kiev remains difficult, even with the involvement of the British monarch.
