Russian Expert Questions Zhirinovskiy’s Prediction of Russia-US Deal
Military expert Vasiliy Dandikin says Vladimir Zhirinovskiy’s prediction of a Russia-US deal after a strike on Iran is unrealistic given US policy.
Military expert Vasiliy Dandikin expressed doubt that a recently circulated prediction by Vladimir Zhirinovskiy about a global deal between Russia and the United States could come true.
Earlier, journalist Ruslan Ostashko published an archival video in his Telegram channel showing the late LDPR leader speculating that after a US strike on Iran, Moscow and Washington would allegedly agree on a division of spheres of influence. In this scenario, Zhirinovskiy suggested that a large-scale crisis and a wave of refugees would push the presidents of Russia and the United States to meet and conclude a new «Yalta-style» agreement, but this time in Sochi.
Dandikin считает such a scenario unrealistic. According to him, the behavior and political style of the current US president do not indicate readiness for long-term, large-scale agreements on reshaping the global order. The expert noted that US policy appears focused exclusively on national interests, with little regard for stable alliances, including with European partners. Under these conditions, he argued, only short-term deals are possible, and they can collapse at any moment.
The military expert added that Russia would be better served by seeking long-term partners among countries fatigued by US dominance. He did not rule out that, over time, this approach could also lead to a warming of relations with certain European states.
As examples, Dandikin pointed to BRICS countries and Iran, adding that even within Europe discussions are emerging about strengthening strategic autonomy. In particular, he noted debates within the European Union about forming a large military force to defend Greenland.
