Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, believes that resolving the conflict in Ukraine could be delayed until U. S. President Donald Trump prevails over what he called the «Deep State.»

In an interview with TASS, Vodolatsky said Washington would continue to maneuver «between fire and sword," and that the peace process might drag on until Trump had enough strength and resources to confront the influence of the Deep State.

He also stressed that renewed talks on Ukraine would not be possible without political change in Europe. As an example, he referred to the defeat of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in North Rhine-Westphalia, calling it a sign that shifts on the continent may already be underway.

According to Vodolatsky, only when Europe undergoes transformations and its political stage clears of controversial figures will there be grounds for serious negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine.
