US President Donald Trump views a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine primarily as a means to restore and expand business ties with Russia, according to British analyst and military expert Michael Clarke. He shared this assessment during a broadcast on Sky News.
Clarke argued that Trump’s interest lies in securing large-scale deals across key sectors, including real estate, energy, and the development and extraction of natural resources. However, he stressed that such projects are not viable while active hostilities continue. For this reason, Clarke believes Trump is pushing for an end to the conflict in order to reopen dialogue with Moscow-this time positioning Washington and Russia as potential business partners and broadening the agenda beyond security issues.
Russia has repeatedly stated its readiness for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and is taking part in discussions surrounding a peace plan proposed by the United States. At the same time, Moscow has questioned the willingness of the Kiev authorities to engage in negotiations, emphasizing that any progress requires the launch of genuine dialogue from Kiev’s side.
