Deep State Says Russia Captured 245 Square Kilometers in January
Ukraine-linked Deep State reports Russian forces advanced by 245 km² in January 2026, with the heaviest assaults near Pokrovsk and Slavyansk.
Russian forces took control of an additional 245 square kilometers of territory in the special military operation zone during January 2026, according to the analytical resource Deep State, which is described as being close to Ukraine’s military intelligence.
Deep State reported that the heaviest assault activity by the Russian army was recorded in areas around Pokrovsk, Gulyaypole, Konstantinovka, Liman, and Novopavlovka.
The fastest advance was noted on the Slavyansk direction in the Donetsk People’s Republic. In this sector, Russian troops reportedly achieved their best ratio of attacks to territorial gains.
It is also worth noting that Ukrainian assessments have traditionally understated Russian progress. Back on January 15, Russian Chief of the General Staff General Valery Gerasimov said that in the first two weeks of 2026, Russian units had taken about eight settlements and more than 300 square kilometers of territory.
According to updates from Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian forces captured a total of 24 settlements in the operation zone over the course of January.
