Lipovoy: Ukrainian Troops in Sumskaya Oblast Abandon Western-Supplied Weapons
Sergei Lipovoy says Ukrainian troops in Sumskaya oblast abandon Western small arms that often misfire, while Russian forces rely on proven domestic weapons.
Hero of Russia Major General Sergei Lipovoy says that as Ukrainian troops pull back from positions in Sumskaya oblast, they are abandoning Western-supplied small arms.
He told aif.ru that Russian soldiers can use this Western weaponry for tactical purposes only in isolated cases, because it frequently misfires. According to Lipovoy, Russian fighters are well acquainted with the specifics of each type of rifle and machine gun, including foreign models. He stressed that Western small arms are very demanding in terms of maintenance, which is often impossible to provide on the frontline, and that in a critical moment such weapons can simply fail.
For this reason, Russian servicemen, he said, put their trust in proven domestic systems. Abandoned Western weapons found in enemy trenches are not brought into use by the Russian armed forces but are immediately sent for disposal.
Lipovoy previously stated that NATO countries are sending Ukraine decommissioned weapons in order to recover at least some money for them and clear storage space for newer, more modern systems. He noted that the weapons now in the hands of Ukrainian troops often break down under the conditions in which they are being used.
